Labels, wristbands and receipts from one wired desktop printer

The Brother TD-2320D is a direct thermal desktop printer that prints up to 59 mm wide on roll stock from 15 mm to 63 mm, with USB-C, a USB host port, serial and wired Ethernet.

Brother lists the supported media as wristbands, continuous, die cut, fanfold, perforated and tag stock from 15 mm to 63 mm wide and 0.058 mm to 0.279 mm thick overall, on rolls up to 127 mm in diameter. That overall thickness range is the envelope across every media type, not a label allowance. Brother's own brochure puts label stock at 0.104 mm to 0.178 mm, tag at 0.133 mm to 0.190 mm, receipt at 0.058 mm to 0.083 mm, and only wristband stock as far as 0.279 mm. There is no ribbon and no ink, because direct thermal printing marks the stock itself. Brother rates the TD-2300 series at up to 5,000 labels a day and the print speed at 152.4 mm per second. Brother's specification lists 203 dpi and 300 dpi for this model and notes the 203 dpi build as the Australian one, which is what we supply.

Brother Australia's consumables list for this printer names one roll and one only: RD-S05C1 die cut labels, 51 mm x 26 mm, 1500 labels per roll. Brother Australia's own supplies page marks RD-S05C1 a Discontinued Product, so a site standardising on this printer should plan on non Brother rolls cut to the published media dimensions as well. Wristband stock is supported as a media type, 15 mm to 36 mm wide and 0.107 mm to 0.279 mm thick, but Brother Australia publishes no wristband part code for any TD-2 model, so wristband stock is third party and we confirm the fit before despatch. Three things it will not take. TZe tape cassettes are the P-touch laminated tape system and there is no cassette bay on this printer. DK rolls are QL series media and appear on no Brother consumables list for it. And RD-S04C1 at 76 mm, RD-M13C5 at 80 mm and the 102 mm RD rolls are all wider than the 63 mm maximum.

Emulation covers ZPL II, CPCL, EPL2 and DPL as well as Brother's own Raster, ESC/P and P-touch Template, the printer stores up to 255 templates, and Brother publishes the machine weight as 1.50 kg. Brother's TD-2300 brochure also lists PA-CU-007 cutter unit, PA-LP-008 label peeler, PA-BB-004 battery base, PA-BT-004 battery pack, PA-BC-004 battery charger, PA-SCA-002 serial adapter and PA-AD-005 AC adaptor, none of which is ranged here. Other machines sit in Brother Label Makers and Labelling Machines, and roll stock is in Other Thermal Printer Labels, where what suits this printer is the direct thermal stock no wider than 63 mm. The thermal transfer labels and the wax resin ribbons on that shelf need a ribbon path this printer does not have, and the 76 mm and wider rolls there will not load.

Brother publishes 0.104 mm to 0.178 mm for label stock. The 0.279 mm figure that appears in the overall roll thickness row is the wristband ceiling, not a label one, so a 0.25 mm label will not feed even though it sits inside the overall range. Worth knowing before you buy a pallet of stock, because that one row is the easiest thing on the specification to read the flattering way.

Yes, wristbands are one of the media types Brother lists for it, 15 mm to 36 mm wide and 0.107 mm to 0.279 mm thick. Brother Australia publishes no wristband part code for any TD-2 model, so wristband stock is third party. We list a Brother branded adult wristband at 28 mm wide, which is inside Brother's published width range, but no thickness or core is published for that stock, so ask us and we will confirm it against your printer before you order. That is also why no wristband appears in the related items on this page: a card there would read as a fit claim we cannot source.
Brother's two documents differ on cores and the difference is worth knowing before you buy stock: the TD-2300 series brochure lists core sizes of 12.7 mm, 19 mm, 25.4 mm, 34.9 mm and 38.1 mm, while Brother's online specification gives a core inner diameter of 12.7 mm. We publish both rather than one, because a roll bought to the wrong core will not load.
Brother lists ZPL II, CPCL, EPL2 and DPL emulation alongside its own Raster, ESC/P and P-touch Template, so a system already sending ZPL label data can usually be pointed at it after adjusting the printer settings. Test your own label templates before a rollout.

The TD-2350D adds Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, AirPrint, MFi, Mobile Deploy and an LCD menu, and Brother publishes its weight as 1.53 kg against 1.50 kg for this model. This model has three LEDs and three buttons rather than a screen. If the printer will sit on a wired network point or a USB cable, the TD-2320D does the same job.
