A Twenty Four Millimetre Labeller That Needs No Driver

P-touch Editor Lite lives on the Brother PT-P700 itself, so plugging the USB cable into a Windows machine launches the label software without an install or an administrator password.

That single detail is why this printer ends up on shared desks, in schools and on locked down corporate fleets where installing software is a request rather than a task. There is no keyboard and no screen on the unit itself. Labels are designed on the computer, where the full font library, symbol set and barcode formats are already available, then cut automatically as they print.

It takes Brother TZe cassettes right across the range from 3.5mm to 24mm, and it also runs HSe heat shrink tube and STe stencil tape, which puts conductor identification and etched marking on the same machine. Labels run from 25mm to 1000mm using the full P-touch Editor software.

Replacement cassettes are in the Brother TZe tape range across all six widths, and printed conductor sleeving is in Brother heat shrink tube and speciality media. The wireless equivalent with NFC is the Brother PT-P750W. Note that P-touch Editor for macOS does not support HSe cassettes.

Brother TZe cassettes in 3.5mm, 6mm, 9mm, 12mm, 18mm and 24mm. Twenty four millimetres is the maximum, so a 36mm TZe cassette will not fit. If you need 36mm, the PT-P900W, PT-P910BT, PT-E920BT and PT-P950NW are the machines that take it.

Yes. Brother lists HSe heat shrink tube among the cassettes this machine accepts, covering the 5.2mm, 9.0mm, 11.2mm and 21.0mm 3:1 sizes. It does not take the 31mm HSe cassettes, which need a PT-P900W or PT-P950NW.

Not on Windows. P-touch Editor Lite is stored on the printer and starts from the USB connection, which is why this model suits shared and locked down computers. The fuller P-touch Editor 5 is a separate download if you want database linking and 1000mm labels.

Yes for standard TZe labelling, with P-touch Editor 5 for macOS. One limitation worth knowing before you buy: Brother states that P-touch Editor for macOS does not support HSe heat shrink cassettes.

No. The PT-P700 is computer driven and has no keyboard or display of its own, only a power button, a feed and cut button and status lamps. If you want a standalone machine with a keyboard, look at the PT-D610BT.
