Boards get replaced that did not need to be. Ghosting is most often marker residue and dust bonded into the surface, which a dedicated cleaner lifts where a dry eraser only smears. Clean the whole board rather than the marks, and avoid solvent-based household sprays that attack the coating. A weekly clean prevents most of it.
