Size 9 Hog Hair Flat Brush for Broad Coverage

X-Press It size 9 hog hair flat brush is a broad flat that sits just below the size 10 and 12, giving wide strokes for backgrounds and large shapes.

An odd size like 9 is useful when a size 8 feels slow on a large canvas board but a 10 is wider than the shapes being painted. The firm bristle suits thick acrylic, tempera and impasto-style texture. This listing uses a range photo showing a single hog hair flat on a long natural timber handle, rather than a size-specific close-up.

Wide strokes let students finish an underpainting in one session, leaving the next lesson for detail. The flat head also blends two wet colours along a horizon by sweeping across the join while both are still wet, which softens the transition.

Add canvas boards and heavy paper from art paper and canvas, select underpainting colours among the acrylic paints, and complete your brush set with detail rounds and fine flats from our craft paint brushes collection.

FAQs

One X-Press It size 9 flat brush with hog hair bristles.
The size 9 is a step narrower, so it suits large shapes that still need some control. Choose the 10 or 12 when covering whole backgrounds.
The photo is a general image of the hog hair flat range. Your size 9 brush shares its handle style but has its own head width.
Wash it in water before the paint dries, work soap through the bristles, rinse and reshape. Dried acrylic in the ferrule splays the head for good.
