Terracotta Tone Without A Kiln

FIMOair light 8133-76 is a 125 g block of Staedtler's extra lightweight, air-drying modelling clay in terracotta, so finished pieces carry a fired-pot colour without paint or a kiln.

Staedtler sum up FIMOair light as pottery without a kiln. It is ready to use from the foil pack, has a smooth consistency and holds its shape, then sets hard in the open air. Because the colour is in the clay, a plant tag, a boho hanging or a little dish already reads as terracotta straight off the table.

Once dry, Staedtler say you can file, sand, drill, paint or varnish it. A few white accents with an acrylic marker look sharp on the warm base. Staedtler note that lacquer leaves the surface water-repellent rather than waterproof, so keep pieces as decoration rather than planters.

Drying takes time. Staedtler explain it depends on thickness, size, room temperature and humidity and can run to several days. Turn a piece only after 12 hours and skip the hair dryer, which can warp or crack it.

FAQs

No. FIMOair light hardens in the air, so it needs no oven or kiln. Staedtler say drying can take several days depending on how thick the piece is.
Treat them as decoration. Staedtler say lacquer paints make FIMOair water-repellent but not waterproof, so it is not a pot for watering plants.
Yes, both are FIMOair light from the same 8133 range, so you can join white and terracotta parts in one piece or knead them for a lighter shade.
Staedtler suggest an airtight container with a few drops of water. Knead it well before use if it has been stored a while.
FIMOair shrinks a little as it dries. Staedtler recommend slow drying somewhere cool and say cracks can be filled with slip.
