Red Ballpoints For Marking, Corrections And Line Drawing

Staedtler 4230 M-2 is ten red ball 4230 ballpoints with a triangular grip, a push-button retracting point and a 1.0mm medium tip.

A red pen does a particular set of jobs: marking homework, flagging errors on a proof, ticking off a stocktake sheet or adding a second colour to meeting notes. For those short bursts of marking, a click pen saves fumbling with a cap between pages. Staedtler Australia list the 4230 as a retractable triangular ballpoint, and on their website describe the three-sided shape as ergonomic, for relaxed and easy writing and drawing.

Staedtler's own photographs show the red 4230 used for fine line illustrations of flowers, so it is not only a correcting pen. Their 2024 catalogue calls the writing particularly smooth, lists the ink as indelible to ISO 12757-2 and describes the pen as airplane safe. The barrel is a tinted see-through red, easy to find in a pencil case full of blue.

FAQs

Ten. Staedtler Australia supply the 4230 M in boxes of 10, and one box is what you receive.
It suits marking well: a click point means no cap to juggle, and Staedtler rate the writing as particularly smooth. The medium 1.0mm tip gives a line that stands out on a page.
Staedtler list the 4230 ink as indelible, conforming to ISO 12757-2. As with any ballpoint, give it a moment on glossy paper before handling.
Staedtler make it in red, blue and black, plus an assorted box of 8 (4230 MC8). We stock the blue 4230 M-3 and black 4230 M-9 as boxes of 10.
Staedtler do not list one for the 4230. It is a pen you replace once empty.
