A Fuller Palette Of Oil Pastels For Art Classes

Staedtler 2420 C24 holds 24 oil pastels in assorted colours in a cardboard box, double the 12 set, with more greens, ochres and browns to work with.

With 24 colours on the table there is room for real colour mixing: two or three greens for foliage, warm and cool reds, ochre and earth tones, a grey and a white for softening. Oil pastels blend by layering and smudging one colour into the next, so a bigger palette means less overworking of the page.

In Staedtler's description the 2420 is brilliant and colour-intensive, waterproof, and at home on nearly any smooth surface with a broad choice of techniques. The round sticks measure about 11 mm across in paper sleeves, a size that suits older children and adults alike. Try them on cartridge paper, card or primed board, and use the waterproof property for resist work under ink or watercolour.

The colour strip printed on the box front lets you check shades at a glance before you open it. Staedtler make 48 colours in the 2420 range in total.

FAQs

A single cardboard box of 24 Staedtler 2420 oil pastels in assorted colours.
The 12 covers primary colours plus black, white and brown. The 24 adds extra greens, ochres, a grey and more reds, which helps with landscapes and shading.
Staedtler say almost all smooth surfaces. Paper and card are the usual choice; test a corner first on anything unusual.
Lay one colour lightly, then work a second over it and smudge with a fingertip, a paper stump or a cotton bud. Light layers blend more easily than heavy ones.
This listing is the boxed set only. Staedtler make 48 colours in the 2420 range.
