Dependable HB Graphite Pencils for Everyday Writing

The Faber-Castell 1111 Graphite Pencil HB is a classic black matt pencil supplied in a box of 12, made for writing, drawing and sketching at school and at work.

Each 1111 pencil holds a 2.2mm graphite lead in a hexagonal barrel made from FSC certified wood. Faber-Castell bonds the lead to the wood with its secural bonding (SV) process, which gives high break-resistance and cuts down the time spent at the sharpener. The barrel is coated in an environmentally friendly, water-based black paint and printed with the HB grade, so the right pencil is easy to pick out of a mixed tub.

The HB grade lays down smooth, consistent lines suited to handwriting, worksheets and quick sketches. The hexagonal shape sits comfortably in the hand and stops pencils rolling off desks, and Faber-Castell describes the 1111 as non-toxic and safe for kids to use, which suits busy classrooms and shared office stationery cupboards.

FAQs

No. The 1111 is a plain-ended pencil with no eraser tip, so pair it with a separate eraser such as the Staedtler Rasoplast Combi eraser we stock.
HB sits in the middle of the hardness scale and is the usual choice for everyday handwriting, forms and worksheets. If you want a softer, darker line for sketching, Faber-Castell also makes the 1111 in 2B.
Faber-Castell bonds the 2.2mm lead to the wood with its secural bonding (SV) process, which the maker says gives high break-resistance and reduces sharpening time. A sharp, good-quality sharpener still gives the cleanest point.
Faber-Castell describes the 1111 as non-toxic and safe for kids to use. As with any sharpened pencil, younger children should be supervised.
The 1111 is a classic hexagonal pencil for confident writers and adults. The Junior Grip has a thick triangular barrel aimed at beginners who are still learning pencil grip.
Yes. Faber-Castell states the 1111 is made from FSC certified wood that originates from responsibly managed forests.
