Cobalt Blue for Skies, Seas and Cool Shadows

Cobalt Blue is a deep blue with a violet lean that brightens noticeably in the thin band of our swatch, at home in skies, seascapes and blue-and-white ceramic studies.

Chroma prints COBALT BLUE on a strong blue band with a half-filled circle and Series 6, followed by Kobaltblau, Bleu de Cobalt and Azul de Cobalto. The side of the label is legible in our photo and reads Lightfastness ASTM 1, under a pigment line we cannot make out. The Atelier panel, Fine Artists' Paint and Est. 1965 follow, then Interactive Acrylic and Unlockable Formula.

Seascapes, cool shadows on snow or stone, and blue-and-white china in still life all suit this deep cobalt. An 80ml tube is a sensible size for frequent studio use and travels easily to outdoor sessions, and its blue band is quick to find.

Cobalt Blue in 80ml is code AI26660, a Series 6 tube. Surround this blue with acrylic paint tubes and jars, brushes, palettes and painting accessories and canvas boards. It shares Series 6 with Cerulean Blue.

FAQs

Just one tube of Cobalt Blue in the 80ml size, Chroma code AI26660. The swatch in the first image is a photo sample.
Yes. Our photo of the cobalt tube shows Lightfastness ASTM 1 printed on the side panel; that is Chroma's rating, not ours.
In our swatch photos, Cobalt Blue is deeper with a violet lean, while Cerulean Blue is a lighter, clearer sky blue. Both are Series 6.
It is a Chroma label symbol. The key is not visible in our photos of this cobalt, so we do not interpret it.
