Alizarine Crimson for dark, wine-toned reds
Alizarine Crimson is a deep, wine-toned red suited to the shadowed side of roses, cherries and velvet drapery in still life and portrait painting.
Printed on the pink shoulder label of this tube are the name Alizarine Crimson, an open circle marked Transparent, and the colour name again in French, German and Spanish. Our swatch shows a dark crimson where the paint is thick and a brighter raspberry pink where it has been scraped thin. The body of the tube reads Atelier A2, "Heavy Body Acrylic", 120mL, 4 US fl oz.
A 120ml tube sits comfortably in a studio drawer or a travel kit, so this crimson is ready whenever a painting calls for a darker, wine-coloured red. The tube keeps the paint sealed between sessions, and the black cap lets you squeeze out only what the palette needs.
Line up Alizarine Crimson with the other A2 tubes in our acrylic paints, choose a support from art paper and canvas, and pick a round or flat from paint brushes sized for the detail you are working on.
