36mm Yellow Labelling for High Visibility Indoor Identification

Brother TZe-661 prints black characters onto a yellow laminated tape, 36mm wide and 8 metres long, for labels that have to stand out against grey plant, steel shelving and painted walls indoors.

A 36mm cassette fits four of the P-touch tools we stock: the PT-P900W, PT-E920BT, PT-P910BT and the PT-P950NW. It will not fit the PT-P700, PT-P710BT, PT-D610BT, PT-P750W or the PT-E560BTVP, which top out at 24mm. It will not fit the PT-D460BT or the PT-E310BTVP, which top out at 18mm. It will not fit the PT-H105, PT-D210, PT-P300BT or the PT-E110VP, which top out at 12mm. Check the maximum cassette width printed on your machine before ordering.

Six laminate layers seal the printed characters between clear PET protective films, so abrasion wears the surface and leaves the text legible. Brother records no print discolouration against solvents, acids and alkalis, and no effect after thirty days immersed in water or 5 per cent salt solution. Outdoors is the exception. After 478 hours of accelerated UV, roughly a year of exposure, the yellow background faded heavily at 57.20 delta E while the print itself stayed legible. For permanent outdoor signage the black on white tape in this width is the safer choice.

The rest of the range sits in Brother TZe and MK tapes, the four tools that accept a 36mm cassette are all in Brother P-touch label makers, and the wider marking range is grouped under labelling consumables. The Brother PT-P900W is one of the four that takes it.

It fits four of the tools we stock: the PT-P900W, PT-E920BT, PT-P910BT and the PT-P950NW. It does not fit the PT-P700, PT-P710BT, PT-D610BT, PT-P750W or the PT-E560BTVP, which take 24mm at most. It does not fit the PT-D460BT or the PT-E310BTVP, which take 18mm at most. It does not fit the PT-H105, PT-D210, PT-P300BT or the PT-E110VP, which take 12mm at most.

Cassette width is a mechanical limit set by the bay and the print head, not a software setting. Only four of the fifteen tools we stock, the PT-P900W, PT-E920BT, PT-P910BT and PT-P950NW, have a bay deep enough to seat a 36mm cassette. If you need this width and run something smaller, the machine is the thing that has to change, not the tape.

Eight metres. Brother supplies 8 metres in every laminated TZe width from 6mm to 36mm, so a 36mm cassette holds the same length as a 12mm one and simply produces wider labels.

It survives outdoors but the background colour does not. Brother's 478 hour accelerated UV test, roughly a year of exposure, shifted the yellow background by 57.20 delta E, which is a heavy fade. The printed characters stay legible throughout. For a label that must still look right after a year in the sun, choose black on white.

No. Brother describes the acrylic adhesive on laminated TZe tape as removable without leaving a sticky residue. If you need a label that cannot be lifted, this is not the right tape. The TZe-S strong adhesive range is the one to look at.

Not this one. Brother's UL file covers the strong adhesive, flexible ID and security TZe ranges. Standard laminated TZe, including this cassette, is not included. If a UL listing is a tender requirement, specify one of those three ranges instead.

Brother survival tested the laminated range from minus 80 to plus 150 degrees Celsius. That is a survival test rather than an operating rating, and Brother notes the laminate can separate or shrink under sustained heat. Brother publishes no dishwasher safe or freezer safe claim for TZe tape, so we do not make one.
