Scan and Power Through One USB-C Cable, Wherever You Work

The Brother DS-640e is a compact mobile document scanner that handles A4 pages, receipts and ID cards at up to 15 pages per minute, taking both power and data from a single USB-C cable.

At 301mm long and 0.5kg it fits in a laptop bag, and there is no power adapter to carry because the scanner runs from the computer it is plugged into. It takes single sheets from 50.8mm to 215.9mm wide and up to 1,828mm long, in colour or mono at up to 600 x 600 dpi optical. Brother specifies single sheet feeding with no feeder capacity listed, and lists two-sided scanning as not supported.

It works with the scanning software you already use through TWAIN, WIA, ICA and SANE drivers, and Brother includes Power PDF for Windows to edit, convert and combine the results. Auto-crop and auto-deskew are built into the driver on supported Windows and macOS versions, and a single button starts each scan.

No. The DS-640e is USB bus powered and draws power and data through the supplied 75cm USB-C to USB-C cable, and Brother does not include a power adapter. The cable is USB-C at both ends, so plan on a computer with a USB-C port.
No. Brother specifies single sheet document sizes for this model and publishes no automatic document feeder capacity, so pages are fed one at a time. If you regularly scan stacks, the Brother ADS-1800W takes up to 20 sheets in its feeder.
No. Brother lists 2-sided scanning as not supported on the DS-640e, so a double-sided original needs a second pass. The Brother ADS-1800W scans 2-sided if that matters for your workflow.
Yes. Brother lists driver support for macOS 14, 15 and 26 as well as Windows 10 and 11 and Windows Server 2016, 2019, 2022 and 2025. The bundled Power PDF software is for Windows only.
