Early Years Maths Explained Strand by Strand
Blake's Maths Guide for Lower Primary by Beverley Dunbar explains the mathematics children meet in the first years of school, topic by topic.
The guide follows the three Australian Curriculum maths strands for Years 1 and 2, with topics set out in the recommended teaching order. Number and Algebra runs from counting and place value to adding, subtracting, sharing, fractions and money. Measurement and Geometry covers length, area, mass, capacity, time, the calendar, shapes and position, and a final strand introduces chance and data.
Each topic pairs a simple explanation with worked examples and TRY THIS activities, so children see a method before trying it. Curriculum correlation charts, a glossary and an index help teachers and parents find the right page quickly, and answers are given for selected activities.
It is a handy companion for parents helping with early maths homework. See more primary maths books for the early years, add activity books for extra practice, or visit our educational supplies collection for classroom maths resources.
