Avery says the brown finish blends into cardboard and blocks out what is underneath. That is a claim about the colour of the label, not about a layer behind it. Over plain board it works the way any dark label does; over a printed courier label it is doing less than a black backing would.

Avery sells this range in three board weights and several pack sizes under the same software code. The premium codes are 131gsm, the older shipping, smooth feed and filing codes are 148gsm, and the kraft codes are 200gsm. The TrueBlock name is not tied to a weight: it appears on codes in both the 131gsm and the 148gsm groups. The software code, not the pack size, is what decides whether a template will line up.
