They list the slash alongside the alphabetical letters, numbers, year codes and months as one of the codes available in the range, and leave the meaning to the filing system it goes into. If your convention already uses a slash in file references, this is the tab that carries it.

Not cleanly. The facestock is polyester and the adhesive is permanent, which is what you want on a file that will be handled for years. Polyester also stands up to that handling far better than paper.
