Refill format is the decision that outlasts the unit. A cartridge dispenser takes a sealed pouch, keeps the pump hygienic and needs no cleaning, but it ties you to whatever cartridge fits. A bulk-fill unit takes any compatible liquid or foam and costs far less per wash, provided someone is willing to clean the reservoir on a schedule. Foam stretches further than liquid.
