A plan binder clamps large-format drawings along one edge so a set stays together, hangs on a rack and lies flat the moment it comes off it. Size is the whole decision and it follows the drawing rather than the cupboard: A1 covers most architectural and engineering sheets, A0 suits sets issued at full size, and B1 handles the in-between sheets some consultants still work to. Clamping beats rolling for anything referenced regularly, since a rolled drawing has to be weighted down flat every single time it is opened.
