The stick takes the blade as it exits the stack, so it wears in a groove and a blade landing in an old groove cuts raggedly. Rotate or replace on a schedule rather than waiting for the cut to deteriorate. Sticks are machine specific in section and length. Budget them alongside blades rather than as an afterthought.
