Blue, and Why Pigment Ink Matters on a Form

uni-ball publishes the Signo UM-120 as waterproof pigment ink with a 0.7mm line, and blue is one of the eight ink colours named on uni-ball's own safety data sheet for the model.

Blue is the signature colour in most Australian offices, and a signature is exactly where ink type stops being trivia. Pigment sits in the paper fibre rather than dissolving through it, and uni-ball publishes this ink as waterproof, so a contract that meets a coffee ring still reads. At 0.7mm the line is broad enough to stay legible on a photocopy and fine enough for a form field.

uni-ball also publishes the ink as acid free, which matters for anything filed and kept rather than filed and shredded. The published refill is the UMR-5N, so a heavily used pen can be kept going instead of replaced. Blue comes twelve to a box here, all the one colour.
