Brilliant Blue For Sea, Sky And Bold Beads

FIMO soft 8020-33 is brilliant blue, a strong mid blue in a 57 g block of oven-bake modelling clay from Staedtler.

It is the blue to reach for when a piece needs to read as clearly blue from across the room: waves and fish on a sea scene, a sky band on a cane, cobalt style beads, or the blue half of a blue and white patterned slab. On Staedtler's colour board it sits between pacific blue and the darker windsor blue, so the three can be stacked for a graded sea or sky.

The block arrives scored into 8 portions, which makes it easy to tear off a measured amount for a mix. A portion of brilliant blue folded into white gives softer powder blues; added to a green it cools the shade. Staedtler describe FIMO soft as soft and smooth, ready to use and suited to beginners as well as hobby artists.

Finished blue pieces go into a domestic oven; Staedtler's setting is 110°C, held for 30 minutes. The pack opens easily and can be closed again, so leftover portions stay wrapped between sessions.

Blend it with white FIMO soft. Start with one of the 8 portions of blue in a larger amount of white and add blue a little at a time until the shade suits.
On Staedtler's colour board, pacific blue is the brighter neighbour and windsor blue is darker. We list both if you want a graded set.
Staedtler give 110°C (230°F) for 30 minutes in the oven. Follow the directions on the pack.
