Burnt Sienna for landscape and earth-tone painting in groups

Chromacryl Burnt Sienna in the 250ml jar brings a warm terracotta brown to a table of students painting landscapes, bark and brickwork.

In the swatch this colour shows as a reddish-brown that leans towards terracotta, a little lighter and warmer where the brush drags thin. The jar is labelled Medium Bodied Students Acrylic and carries the Chromacryl script with Est. 1965 above it. The 250ml size is a practical amount for a small cluster of desks sharing one earth colour.

Earth browns turn up in nearly every landscape, portrait background and still life, so one jar on the table saves passing tubes around. The clear jar shows the paint colour through its wall, which helps when several browns are stored together on a shelf.

Group it with the wider acrylic paint range, add paper and canvas for the surfaces, and keep smocks and aprons handy for messy landscape days. Sienna browns look at home on rough paper as well as on primed boards, so either surface works for a landscape lesson.

FAQs

A single Burnt Sienna jar holding 250ml, closed with a black screw cap.
Yes. Chroma labels the jar Medium Bodied Students Acrylic, so it is intended for learners rather than gallery work.
Looking at the two swatches, Burnt Sienna is the redder, more terracotta brown, while Burnt Umber is a darker chocolate brown.
A jar lets a group dip or decant from one container, which suits shared tables. The 75ml tube is the better fit for an individual kit.
