Cool olive brown for bark, rocks and muted landscapes
Chromacryl Raw Umber is a dark, cool olive brown that suits tree bark, rocks, muted landscapes and shadow tones in student paintings.
A cool brown gives students a way to paint natural shadow and weathered surfaces without the warmth of a reddish brown. Raw Umber comes in a 1 litre bottle, a practical size for art rooms supplying more than one landscape class. In the photos the bottle looks greyish olive, and the label band names it RAW UMBER in black capitals.
Raw Umber is handy for gum tree bark, stone walls and old timber, where a warmer brown would look too red. Keeping a litre in the art room helps when several year groups are painting landscapes in the same term and all want that same cool brown on their palettes.
Pair it with Burnt Umber and the other earths in our acrylic paint range, gather craft paint brushes for bark texture, and add canvas boards for longer landscape pieces that take more than one lesson.
