Black And Red On One Roll, No Ink Involved

The Brother DK-22251 is a genuine 62mm continuous paper roll that prints in both black and red on white, 15.24 metres long, for the QL models Brother lists as supporting two colour printing.

It works only with QL models built for two colour printing: Brother restricts this roll to the QL-800, QL-810W and QL-820NWB. On those machines the red prints from the paper itself - direct thermal with no ink - so a FRAGILE line, a due date or an URGENT flag stands out at a glance.

The trade for the second colour is speed: in black and red these printers slow to a maximum of 24 mm per second, about 15 labels a minute. The roll is also 15.24 metres against the 30.48 metres of the standard 62mm paper roll, which matters when you compare prices between the two.

Yes, and it is worth planning around. In black and red these models run at up to 24 mm per second, about 15 labels a minute, well under their plain black speed. For a short run of warning or date labels that is rarely noticeable; budget more time for long runs.
Brother makes the two colour roll 15.24 metres long, where the standard black-only DK-22205 paper roll is 30.48 metres. If you are comparing price per roll, compare the length too - and if you do not need red, the DK-22205 is the more economical choice.
The roll is continuous, so the printer cuts each label to the length of your design. The maximum depends on the printer and software - for example Brother rates the QL-800 and QL-820NWB at labels up to 1 metre. The width is fixed at 62mm.
