The mistake is using one grade everywhere. An aggressive pad clears a grill plate and leaves permanent scratching on stainless benches, glass cooktops and non-stick surfaces. Keep at least two grades and colour code them so the harsh one stays where it belongs. Replace pads on a schedule, since a worn pad holds soil. See cleaning sponges, cleaning cloths and 3M.
