Daylight Saving Time:
3 Tips to Help Your Body Adjust

While taking advantage of daylight saving time is tempting, claiming that extra hour of sleep in autumn may not be the best for your body’s internal clock. Whether it’s an hour of sleep that’s lost or gained, it can leave you feeling irritable and groggy. In fact, studies show that it can also be dangerous to your health as fatal car accidents and heart attack incidents have increased after shifting to daylight saving time.

With that in mind, here are three tips to help your body adjust properly to daylight saving time:

Prepare a few days earlier

A few days before daylight saving time, it is advisable to go to bed at least 15 to 30 minutes earlier than your usual sleeping time.

Do not take long naps

With the sudden shift in your daily routine, having some shut-eye mid-day may be enticing but you’ll wake up feeling sluggish. The key to adjusting perfectly to any time change is to avoid taking naps. However, if you need to take naps, make sure that these are no longer than 20 minutes.

Avoid coffee

Lastly, avoid coffee (or any alcoholic beverages!) because these types of drinks prevent you from getting quality sleep at night.
