A 2B lead lays down a darker, softer line than the HB most pencils ship with. It suits people who press lightly, who want handwriting that scans and photocopies clearly, or who use a mechanical pencil for sketching and shading as well as notes. At 0.7 mm the lead is sturdy enough for everyday writing.

Staedtler describe Mars micro carbon 255 leads as stable and break resistant, made for a long and smooth writing experience.
