Printed on the jar are the Chromacryl script, Medium Bodied and Students Acrylic, and below those, Raw Umber. A 250ml jar is a sensible group quantity for a unit on landscapes, still life or natural textures.

Because it is cooler than Burnt Umber, Raw Umber suits shadows on greens, soil and old timber without making them look too red. A shared jar keeps the group working from the same brown, and the dark paint behind the clear wall is easy to tell apart from lighter earths.

Students painting natural subjects often add Burnt Umber and the other Chromacryl browns, paper and canvas and palettes and accessories.
