It explains that paint on an unprepared surface dries too fast, losing moisture or oil, and looks dull, while gesso seals the surface thoroughly. At 500ml, the jar fits a group table where four or five students prime their boards together.

The label credits it with excellent covering power and a smooth, even finish with a very fine tooth, and it is listed as water-based. Directions suggest one or two coats, with the first diluted slightly with water so it soaks into absorbent card, and no sanding is needed between coats.

Give each student a board and a flat brush, and let the jar travel around the table.
